Introduction

Johns Hopkins Gastroenterology and Hepatology Remote Second Opinion is a service provided by the full-time faculty physicians of Johns Hopkins Gastroenterology and Hepatology for patients throughout the world. Whether you are unable to make an in-person medical visit due to your geographical location, travel restrictions (physical or financial), or simply prefer to seek a second medical diagnosis from the comfort of your own home, the Johns Hopkins Gastroenterology and Hepatology Remote Second Opinion program provides you with a timely recommendation from leading experts. After reviewing medical records and diagnostic tests, the Johns Hopkins physician will provide a comprehensive recommendation regarding your treatment plans or options based on the information provided by you and your local physician.

Process

Written permission must be obtained from your local physician to request a Johns Hopkins Gastroenterology and Hepatology Remote Second Opinion. After completing required forms, you will mail copies of pertinent medical records and diagnostic tests. A fee will be charged to a credit card prior to the records being reviewed. A formal letter containing the Johns Hopkins physician's assessment and recommendation(s) will be mailed or faxed to you and your local physician.

Non-participating states

Considerations

  • Health Insurance Coverage: Not applicable; this is a self-pay service.
  • Cost of Johns Hopkins Gastroenterology and Hepatology Remote Medical Second Opinion: This service costs $550. An additional fee ($200/review) will be charged if a pathology and/or radiological review are required.
  • Signed approval is required by your local physician before a consultation can be provided.
  • Timeframe for turnaround: approximately 10 business days from receipt of all records and payment.
